This section deals with problems that people are having, what incident has taken place, and basically why your services are needed. There are many different reasons why people need the police, and we will go over those reasons. This section will tie in closely with the dispatch section.

Questions

To figure out what the situation is, you have to be able to ask the right questions to get the necessary information.

¿Puede ayudarle? (PWEH-deh ah-yoo-DAHR-leh) - May I help you?

¿Necesita ayuda? (neh-seh-SEE-tah ah-YOO-dah) - Do you need help?

¿Por qué está llamando? (POHR KEH eh-STAH yah-MAHN-doh) - Why are you calling?

¿Cuál es el problema? (KWAHL EHS EHL proh-BLEH-mah) - What is the problem?

¿Hay algo mal? (AH-ee AHL-goh MAHL) - Is anything wrong?

¿Hay alguien herido? (AH-ee AHL-gee-ehn eh-REE-doh) - Is anyone hurt?

¿Quién estaba envuelto? (kee-EHN eh-STAH-bah ehn-vooEHL-toh) - Who was involved?

¿Le pasa mucho esto? (LEH PAH-sah MOO-choh EH-stoh) - Does this happen often?

¿Quién vio lo que pasó? (kee-EHN vee-OH LOH KEH pah-SOH) - Who saw what happened?

¿Quién es la víctima? (kee-EHN EHS LAH VEEK-tee-mah) - Who is the victim?

¿Quiénes son los testigos? (kee-EH-nehs SOHN LOHS tehs-TEE-gohs) - Who are the witnesses?

¿Cómo pasó esto? (KOH-moh pah-SOH EH-stoh) - How did this happen?

¿Qué hicieron? (KEH ee-see-EH-rohn) - What did they do?

¿En cuál dirección fueron? (EHN KWAHL dee-rehk-seeOHN FWEH-rohn) - Which way did they go?

¿Dónde le pasó? (DOHN-deh LEH pah-SOH) - Where did it happen?

¿Cómo empezó? (KOH-moh ehm-peh-SOH) - How did it start?

¿Qué estaban haciendo? (KEH eh-STAH-bahn ah-seeEHN-doh) - What were they doing?

¿Cuántos habían? (KWAHN-tohs ah-BEE-ahn) - How many were there?

¿Quiere hacerle cargos? (kee-EH-reh ah-SEHR-leh KAHR-gohs) - Do you want to press charges?

¿Entiende? (ehn-teeEHN-deh) - Do you understand?

Problems

This is a list of some of the problems that a citizen might request police assistance for. There are too many situations to list every single one, but you can get an idea of the sentence structure from these examples.

Dígame qué pasó (DEE-gah-meh KEH pah-SOH) - Tell me what happened

Hay una amenaza de una bomba (AH-ee OO-nah ah-meh-NAH-sah DEH OO-nah BOHM-bah) - There is a bomb threat

Hay un ascensor detenido (AH-ee OON ah-sehn-SOHR deh-teh-NEE-doh) - There is a stuck elevator

Hay una persona que se ve sospechosa (AH-ee OO-nah pehr-SOH-nah KEH SEH VEH sohs-peh-CHOH-sah) - There is a suspicious looking person

Hay un cadáver (AH-ee OON kah-DAH-vehr) - There is a dead body

Hay una disputa de familia (Ah-ee OO-nah dee-SPOO-tah DEH fah-MEE-lee-ah) - There is a family dispute

Hay un niño perdido (AH-ee OON NEE-nyoh pehr-DEE-doh) - There is a lost child

Escucho un ruido raro (ehs-KOO-choh OON rooEE-doh RAH-roh) - I hear a strange noise

Hay una explosión (AH-ee OO-nah ehks-ploh-seeOHN) - There is an explosion

Hay alguien vendiendo drogas (AH-ee AHL-gee-ehn vehn-deeEHN-doh DROH-gahs) - There is someone selling drugs

Hay una fiesta muy ruidosa (AH-ee OO-nah feeEHS-tah MOO-ee roo-ee-DOH-sah) - There is a loud party

Me robaron la bicicleta (MEH roh-BAH-rohn LAH bee-see-CLEH-tah) - My bicycle was stolen

Me robaron el carro (MEH roh-BAH-rohn EHL KAH-rroh) - My car was stolen

Quiere morir (kee-EH-reh moh-REER) - He wants to die

Quiere vomitar (kee-EH-reh voh-mee-TAHR) - He wants to vomit

Quiere confesar (kee-EH-reh kohn-feh-SAHR) - He wants to confess

Forzaron a el banco (fohr-SAH-rohn AH EHL BAHN-koh) - They broke into the bank

Forzaron a la casa (fohr-SAH-rohn AH LAH KAH-sah) - They broke into the house

Está destruido (eh-STAH deh-stroo-EE-doh) - It was destroyed

Está perdido (eh-STAH pehr-DEE-doh) - It was lost

Está robado (eh-STAH roh-BAH-doh) - It was stolen

Está enloquecido (eh-STAH ehn-loh-keh-SEE-doh) - He's acting crazy

Está desmayado (eh-STAH dehs-mah-YAH-doh) - He's passed out

Está inconsciente (eh-STAH een-kohn-seeEHN-teh) - He's unconscious

Está roto (eh-STAH ROH-toh) - It's broken

Está abollado (eh-STAH ah-boh-YAH-doh) - It's dented

Está rasguñado (eh-STAH rahs-goo-NYAH-doh) - It's scratched

Está arruinado (eh-STAH ah-rroo-ee-NAH-doh) - It's wrecked

Había un accidente (ah-BEE-ah OON ahk-see-DEHN-teh) - There was an accident

Había un asalto (ah-BEE-ah OON ah-SAHL-toh) - There was an assault

Había una pelea (ah-BEE-ah OO-nah peh-LEH-ah) - There was a fight

Había un robo (ah-BEE-ah OON ROH-boh) - There was a robbery

Había un disparo (ah-BEE-ah OON dee-SPAH-roh) - There was a shooting

El perro me mordió (EHL PEH-rroh MEH mohr-deeOH) - The dog bit me

Me tumbaron (MEH toom-BAH-rohn) - They knocked me down

Le ayudaré (LEH ah-yoo-dah-REH) - I will help you

Estará bien (eh-stah-RAH beeEHN) - You will be okay
